Book a Gait Assessment

Book Your Fitting

At Running Bath, we believe that the right running shoe makes all the difference and finding it starts with understanding how you move. Our expert gait assessment is a 30-minute, one-to-one appointment in our Bath city centre store, designed to take the guesswork out of choosing your next pair of running shoes. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned marathon runner, our specialists will analyse your stride and make a personalised recommendation just for you.

What to Expect

  1. Personal Consultation
We start with a relaxed conversation about your running history – how far you run, what surfaces you cover, any niggles or injuries you’ve had and what your goals are. This helps us tailor the assessment to you.
  2. Movement Analysis
We’ll ask you to run or walk on our treadmill while we observe your movement patterns. Using Footscan technology, we capture and review your gait in detail – looking at how your foot strikes the ground, the degree of pronation or supination and how your body moves through each stride.
  3. Personalised Shoe Recommendation
Based on what we find, we’ll recommend a selection of shoes from our range that are suited to your gait, foot shape and running goals. You’ll have plenty of time to try them on and get a feel for each pair – there’s no rush and no pressure.

What is a Gait Assessment?

Gait analysis is a method of studying the way you run or walk – specifically how your foot moves as it transitions through each step. The key thing we look for is pronation: the natural inward rolling of the foot as it lands. Everyone pronates to some degree, but the amount varies from person to person and wearing a shoe that doesn’t match your gait pattern can lead to discomfort or injury over time.

By understanding your gait, we can match you to a shoe that offers the right level of support, cushioning and stability for your individual needs.

FAQ

It’s a method of analysing a runner’s body movements as they transition through the gait cycle so that we can establish the way you run or walk. Analysing the degree of pronation or supination can help minimise the risk of injury as it allows us to recommend the correct type of footwear for your needs.

No two runners are the same. We all vary in weight, height and stride. So a running shoe that suits one person might cause issues for another. We work with some of the biggest brands to bring you invaluable advice when it comes to choosing your next pair of running shoes.

We’re open

Monday to Saturday: 9:30am to 5:00pm
Sundays: Temporarily closed
Bank Holidays: 10:00am to 4:00pm

Not at all. Our gait assessment is just as useful for someone lacing up their first pair of running shoes as it is for someone training for their tenth marathon. In fact, getting it right from the start is one of the best things a new runner can do.

The appointment is 30 minutes. That gives us enough time to have a proper conversation, carry out the analysis, and try on several pairs of shoes without feeling rushed.

Please bring a clean pair of running socks – ideally ones that cover your ankles. We’re currently unable to provide socks in store, so having your own pair will ensure the best possible fit when trying on shoes.

Yes, if you have them! The wear pattern on an old pair of running shoes can tell us a great deal about your gait, so they can be a really useful reference point.

The gait assessment is complimentary when you purchase a pair of running shoes with us. If you’d like to come in for the assessment only without buying shoes on the day, there’s a £20 charge.

Yes, we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time. You can book using the form on this page or by calling us in store.
